Learn moreThis is an exceptional opportunity to take part in the veterinary care of endangered rhinos. Each intervention offers a hands-on experience with a single rhino, lasting 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the rhino is located and sedated, guests will actively participate in the activity, involving tasks that may include fitting tracking collars, ear-notching, collecting blood and tissue samples, and micro-chipping of horns. This add on experience does not include dehorning interventions and is available from April to September, with advance notice required.
Solar-powered and spanning two levels, our Thabametsi Treehouse has an enclosed shower room, bedroom, lounge and viewing decks – presenting you with 360-degree views of the Waterberg and Marakele plains. You’ll arrive at sunset for sundowners and a gourmet picnic dinner before drifting off to sleep. Your field guide is always a radio call away and your room remains available for returning to at any point.
A child who spends time outdoors will be happier, stronger, more confident, and their imagination will be stimulated. Days here are filled with nature treasure hunts, like looking for heart-shaped rocks and leaves. Family game drives may involve bush orientation, animal spoor identification and mould-making. There are other fun activities as well, like making pizzas or cupcake decorating, arts and crafts, and movie nights.

At the heart of what we do is creating opportunities and experiences to enrich lives – both our guests’ and those of our local people. The idea that a lodge can uplift a community isn’t new, but it is changing how we travel and many of the guests who come through our doors have a strong will to get involved. Take a Community Tour or Get Your Hands Dirty helping out with our development projects for a life-changing experience.
Glide down the winding Matlabas River on our charming Miss Mara flat-bottomed river boat. Whether in the morning or at sunset, you’ll witness countless game, from hippos in the river to foraging elephants at the water’s edge and a myriad of birds.
