Cape Town’s City Hall was alive with grandeur and purpose on the 20 th of November 2024 as it hosted the Mayor’s Charity Auction Dinner. The black-tie fundraiser was held in honour of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services.
The service’s remarkable record of responding to over 13 000 incidents between October 2023 and January 2024, while still supporting flood relief in KwaZulu-Natal, inspired the evening’s fundraising. All proceeds from the event would be going towards two charities identified by the Fire and Rescue Services, namely: St. Joseph’s Intermediate Paediatric Care Centre and The Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust.
During the evening of good food and music, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis took the stage to announce the historic re-illumination of Table Mountain after 15 years. A gesture that perfectly marks the start of the festive season and adds yet another unique experience to Cape Town’s already thriving tourist scene.
Under Mayor Hill-Lewis’s leadership, Cape Town continues to enhance its tourism offerings. The city has recently been named the best city in the world for food in the 2024 Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards and has earned second-place in Time Out Magazine’s 2024 list of the 50 best cities in the world.
The tireless work of the mayor and others like him resonate deeply with our values of creating exceptional guest experiences.
As the festive season nears, the Mother City truly comes alive, ready to welcome visitors from around the globe. With Table Mountain visible day and night, it complements the city’s already world-class attractions, from a Two Oceans Aquarium outing to a romantic dinner at the V&A Waterfront. No matter how you choose to spend your time, Cape Town’s world class warmth and hospitality will be on full display.
Visitors can experience Cape Town’s vibrant charm while staying at the beautifully revitalised rooms of the historic Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel or the spacious, contemporary apartments of More Quarters Neighbourhood Hotel. The multi-award-winning Upper Union Restaurant provides the perfect culinary complement to any Cape Town adventure, embodying the city’s reputation for world-class warmth, hospitality and exceptional food.
We believe that the re-illumination of Table Mountain is symbolic of Cape Town’s incredibly bright future and the endless possibilities that await our guests across this remarkable country.
