Make Dining an Occasion at 1871 @ Stanley & Livingstone

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Wolf

‘Dining well’ to us is the trio of excellent food, personalised service, and a beautiful setting. It's on this basis that we have designed your experience at 1871 @ Stanley & Livingstone.

Set on Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve, the restaurant is part of Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel – a place to pause 15 minutes from the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Just a short drive from town, it’s become a favourite of visitors and hotel guests alike.

The Setting

Seated fireside in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the watering hole that attracts a steady stream of wildlife, 1871 @ Stanley & Livingstone has an easy going charm. It’s the place for brunches, long relaxed lunches, afternoon teas and dinners by candlelight.

The Food (from 'farm to table')

Europe meets Africa on an à la carte menu inspired by our heritage. Classic or fusion, dishes are always delicious. In preparation, our chefs use seasonal produce – much of it
harvested fresh from our own organic vegetable garden. Generous meals will tempt every palate, and any dietary requirement will be met (lest we forget kiddies, who have their own menu too!)

The Wine

Our collection is primarily from South African – world renowned for its wines – and selected by one of its foremost sommeliers, Ingrid Motteux. Our wine stewards are always on hand to guide you. Your selection can be savoured on its own or paired with a meal – making for what we consider to be 'a well-rounded' dining experience ...

The Treats

Victoria Falls has been appreciated from many a terrace over afternoon tea – a truly traditional treat. Ours comes with a twist… of lemon in craft gin cocktails, Champagne and other spirited drinks, along with our teas, coffees, cakes and savouries – including vegan and gluten-free nibbles.

Indulgence, Guilt Free

Every day, we see the extraordinary beauty of our surroundings and are proud to play a part in protecting them. We have banned single-use plastics and take care to recycle, with our organic waste turned into compost for our vegetable garden. We don’t use pesticides either and rely on our guinea fowl patrol to take care of the insect pests. We care for our
people too by employing workers from the local community to tend the garden. Together, we care for an environment that does so much more for us in return.
